It is no coincidence that Motala is called the Lake City of Östergötland. Wherever you are in Motala, you have only five minutes to the water. And always closeness to activities and entertainment that has to do with water. But there is more to enjoy than sunbathing, sailing, fishing, windsurfing or jogging on the kilometer-long sandy beach. On land there are nice places in all parts of Motala to which you gladly take you cycle. Motala unite the best of Östergötland’s nature and culture, and all the benefits of being a Lake City. Including the clean water of lake Vättern and the fact that we are hosting the Vätternrundan!
During the Bike Week Motala double in population and there is great festival atmosphere. Motala residents themselves are often involved as volunteers as well as opens their homes to provide beds for the visitors. If you have planned your visit well in advanced you may get a room in one of the nice local hotels or hostels. All are guaranteed a place to sleep, if in the group accommodation or at temporary campsites. There is of course also a pleasant local variety of shops, cafes and restaurants, right next to the arena.
Motala is located in Sweden, between Gothenburg, Malmo and Stockholm with the nearest airports in Linköping, Norrköping, Örebro and Jönköping. The train and bus station, five minutes from the arena is operated by SJ, Östgötatrafiken and Trains in Bergslagen. If you come by car we recommend parking in the large free parking surfaces prepared by Vätternrundan within reasonable distance.
Besides Vätternrundan, Motala hosts annual events in other sports such as swimming, running, sailing and motorsport. There are also many cultural relics and historical events to experience in the form of Countryside Escapes, Radio Museum, Industrial landscape of old Motala, Stone Age settlements and especially the Göta Canal.
